Ethiopia's Permanent Representative to IRENA Presents Credentials

Jemal Beker (PhD) has officially presented his Letter of Credence to Francesco La Camera, Director-General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), designating him as the Permanent Representative of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to the agency.

During the ceremony, Ambassador Dr. Jemal Beker conveyed the greetings and best wishes of Dr. Gedion Timotheos, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the FDRE, to the Director-General. He reaffirmed Ethiopia's unwavering commitment to the global energy transition and highlighted that more than 90% of the nation's energy is derived from renewable sources, positioning Ethiopia as a renewable energy hub for Africa.

The Ambassador elaborated on the significant contributions of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), alongside wind, solar, and geothermal projects, toward regional energy security and climate resilience. He further noted that Ethiopia's Green Legacy Initiative and its transition to a low-carbon economy serve as a blueprint for sustainable development across the African continent.

Director-General Francesco La Camera warmly welcomed the Ambassadors appointment and commended Ethiopia's exemplary leadership in sustainable development. He specifically praised Ethiopia's selection to host the 32nd UN Climate Change Conference (COP32), stating that this milestone reflects the country's profound commitment to the international climate agenda.

In support of these efforts, the Director-General reaffirmed IRENAs dedication to providing technical support for Ethiopia's priority energy projects and mobilizing investment finance to realize them. La Camera expressed his best wishes for a successful tenure to Ambassador Dr. Jemal Beker and assured him that his office stands ready to provide all necessary support to facilitate the mission at the agency.
