Gondar has recognized the people and institutions that contributed to the renovation of the ancient castle.

Immediately after the Tabots (Ark of the Covenant) reached the baptism area, a recognition event took place at Fasilides Castle, Ethiopia's historic and ancient castle in Gondar. Attendees included the country's President Taye Atske-Selassie, Speaker of the House Agegnehu Teshager, Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh, Addis Ababa-based overseas Ambassadors, UNESCO officials, and other invited guests.

Addressing the gathering, President Taye said all Ethiopians and many institutions contributed to the renovation of Fasilides Castle beyond expectations. Taye said he was grateful for those who supported the renovation, but his special thanks went to PM Abiy Ahmed for the idea of restoration and leadership commitment. Gondar shall sustain the great deeds it is known for, he added.

Opening the session, the City Mayor of Gondar, Chalachew Dagnaw, said Gondar extended the recognition for the successful renovation of the Fasilides Castle as well as the City of Gondar.

Ethiopian President Taye Atske-Selassie, along with other senior officials, handed over the recognition to those who deserved it.
