Professor Joseph Mensah, a renowned scholar from York University and an expert in African economic development, has described Ethiopia’s new Bishoftu International Airport project as a "transformative milestone" for the entire African continent.

In a recent interview with ETV, Professor Mensah, a prolific author specializing in geography, lauded the Ethiopian government’s vision, calling the mega-project a "bold move" toward African economic integration.

The new airport, which carries a $12.5 billion price tag, is set to become Africa's largest aviation hub. Once completed, it is designed to accommodate a staggering 110 million passengers annually.

"The Ethiopian government is making very creative, long-term moves for posterity," Professor Mensah stated during the interview.

"It’s not just reacting to problems; it’s a bold initiative. With four parallel runways, this hub will not only enhance connectivity across the Horn of Africa but will compress space and time for the entire global village."

The Professor also highlighted the strategic expansion of Ethiopian Airlines. He noted that by establishing new hubs in cities like Lomé and Lusaka, and expanding international routes to destinations such as Geneva and Manila, Ethiopia is effectively solidifying its leadership in the global aviation market.

Professor Mensah concluded that such infrastructure projects are essential for the continent's integration, placing Ethiopia at the forefront of Africa’s economic future.
