Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has described the country’s air force as a "shield for the nation" during celebrations marking its 90th anniversary.

Speaking at the event in Bishoftu, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD), said the institution had been a source of national pride throughout its long history and had proven its ability to defeat those attempting to attack the country. He described the air force as a "great institution" that had stepped up at many "critical moments" to ensure national security.

The Prime Minister’s comments come as the Ethiopian Air Force marks nine decades since its founding. The anniversary is being commemorated with a series of international aviation exhibitions and the "Black Lion" air show.
