High-level delegations continue to arrive in the Ethiopian capital for the 39th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union. Among the prominent heads of state arriving today at Bole International Airport were the leaders of Zambia, South Sudan, and Kenya.
Key Arrivals and Receptions:
Zambia: President Hakainde Hichilema was among the first to arrive. He was warmly received by Ethiopia’s Minister of Mines, Engineer Habtamu Tegegn.
South Sudan: President Salva Kiir Mayardit arrived shortly after. His welcoming party included Minister of Mines Engineer Habtamu Tegegnand State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Birhanu Tsegaye.
Kenya:President William Ruto, who also serves as the AU Champion for Institutional Reform, landed in the capital to join his counterparts. He was accorded a formal welcome by senior government officials as part of the ongoing reception for continental leaders.
Leaders are expected to deliberate on critical issues including continental peace and security, economic integration, and the reform of the United Nations Security Council.
