Ethiopian Airlines has signed a major tripartite agreement with Canada’s Provectus Enterprising Inc. and Fusion Global Solutions to transform airline catering waste into sustainable industrial products.
The partnership introduces the "ZED Machine" technology, which converts organic food waste from flights into nutrient-rich biomass and pathogen-free water. This biomass will be used to produce biofuels and soil enhancers, moving the airline away from traditional, carbon-heavy disposal methods.
Witnessed by Canadian officials, the move is a core part of the airline’s Vision 2035 strategy to achieve a circular economy and reduce its environmental footprint. By treating waste as a resource rather than a liability, Ethiopian Airlines aims to set a new sustainability standard for the African aviation industry.
