Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has lauded the "remarkable" urban transformation of Dire Dawa following an inspection of major corridor development projects. During his visit to the "Queen of the Desert," the Prime Minister noted that progress in districts such as Dechatu, Konel, Kefira, Legahare, and Kezira represents a vast improvement over the previous year, significantly beautifying the urban landscape.
While noting that new road networks are a vital component of this progress, the Prime Minister emphasized that extensive work remains. He challenged the local administration to ensure urban infrastructure serves as an economic engine, stating that buildings should transition from mere offices into income-generating assets.
Prime Minister Abiy further urged investors to address gaps in the hotel and restaurant sectors to ensure the city’s hospitality capacity keeps pace with its rapid infrastructural expansion.
