AU Commission Chair Tributes Late Ethiopian Diplomat Ambassador Konjit

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mahmoud Ali Yussuf, expressed his deep sorrow following the passing of the renowned Ethiopian diplomat, Ambassador Konjit SineGiorgis.

The Chairperson described Ambassador Konjit as a "pioneer of Ethiopia’s foreign service and a steadfast Pan-Africanist who dedicated her life to the service of her country and the region."

Ambassador Konjit SineGiorgis built an exemplary professional legacy over several decades of diplomatic work. As one of Ethiopia's first female ambassadors, the Chairperson noted in his statement that she was a powerful trailblazer for future generations of African women diplomats. Her unwavering commitment to protecting Africa's collective interests and strengthening international cooperation played a vital role in advancing continental priorities.

In his message, Mahmoud Ali Yussuf stated, “Ambassador Konjit was a formidable woman characterized by integrity, exceptional competence, and an unyielding commitment to our shared future.” He added that her historic legacy would serve as an eternal inspiration for African women diplomats to serve with courage and purpose.

The Commission Chairperson extended his deepest condolences on behalf of the African Union Commission to the family of Ambassador Konjit SineGiorgis, the Government and people of Ethiopia, and all Africans mourning this great loss.
