A senior official in the Prime Minister’s Office, Dr. Bikila Hurisa, has warned that Ethiopia views hate speech and misinformation as a direct assault on its national interest and sovereignty.
In an interview with EBC FM Addis 97.1, Dr. Bikila, who serves as head of the Center for Coordination of Democratic System Building, stated that the country's fight against these threats is a "significant and coordinated struggle."
He explained that there are still hostile actors attempting to obstruct Ethiopia’s efforts to protect its national interests and achieve its rightful geostrategic standing in the region. According to Dr. Bikila, these groups, having failed through armed struggle, are now using misinformation and hate speech to erode public trust and incite conflict. He said these actions are considered attacks on the nation's sovereignty.
Dr. Bikila concluded by calling on all citizens to view the matter from the perspective of Ethiopia’s honor and sovereignty and to support the ongoing efforts to stop the spread of misinformation and hate speech.
