The House of People's Representatives has reviewed the nine-month performance report of the Ministry of Water and Energy for the 2018 E.C. fiscal year. Presenting the report, Minister Habtamu Itefa (PhD, Eng.) detailed significant achievements across the water and energy sectors.

The minister revealed that the construction of 3,278 water facilities in both rural and urban areas has provided clean drinking water to an additional 2.7 million people. This progress has increased the total number of citizens with access to clean water from 79.5 million to 82.3 million.

In the energy sector, the Ministry successfully generated 1,669 megawatts from various sources over the past nine months, raising the nation's total installed generation capacity to 9,579 megawatts. Minister Habtamu highlighted a major financial milestone, noting that while the target for electricity sales was $314 million, the ministry surpassed expectations by generating $365.9 million in revenue.

Members of Parliament commended the Ministry’s efforts to improve equitable access to water and energy but urged continued momentum. The House also recommended that the Ministry scale up its work in flood risk mitigation, ensuring projects are completed within their designated timelines and maintaining the long-term sustainability of finished infrastructure.
