Health Minister Dr. Mekdes Daba announced at the 5th National Health Information Week in Addis Ababa that over 32 million patient records have been digitized. This milestone is part of a broader effort to achieve the government's Digital 2030 vision, transitioning health facilities toward paperless operations.

The health minister explained that beyond enabling health facilities to provide digital services, paperless services are also being implemented. She noted that the government will work with a focus on technology by helping professionals in the field adapt to these systems and integrating those who have not yet transitioned to digital. Furthermore, she called upon higher education institutions to play their part by producing a workforce that keeps pace with the modern era.

It was mentioned that the health information system is one of the five major priority activities given special attention in the health sector. National Health Information Week will remain in effect across the country from May 11 to May 15, 2026. During this week, professionals in the sector are expected to discuss how to sustain successes and solve challenges while setting a direction for future solutions.

On the opening day, awards were presented to institutions that have effectively implemented digital services. The event was attended by other ministers, stakeholders, and representatives of both governmental and non-governmental organizations.
