Ethiopia, Saudi Arabia Discuss Bilateral Relations, Regional Issues

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gedion Timothewos (PhD), received and held talks with the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Engineer Waleed El-Khereiji, at his office.

During their meeting, the two officials conducted extensive consultations on bilateral relations and regional issues of mutual interest.

Foreign Minister Gedion Timothewos noted that Ethiopia and Saudi Arabia share long-standing historical relations rooted in enduring people-to-people ties. He added that because of the strong interaction between the two nations, they share similar perspectives on a wide range of mutual issues.

The Minister emphasized the necessity of strengthening these ties to better advance the interests of both countries. Furthermore, he raised the critical importance of ensuring the safety and well-being of Ethiopian citizens residing in Saudi Arabia, underlining the need to expand legal employment opportunities for Ethiopian workers.

For his part, the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Engineer Waleed El-Khereiji, reaffirmed that Saudi Arabia highly values its historical, long-standing relationship with Ethiopia and its people.

According to information from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Vice Minister stated that regularizing and utilizing legal labor deployment pathways is crucial to ensuring secure and reliable job opportunities for Ethiopian workers.

The two sides also exchanged views on regional peace and security. During their discussions, they strongly emphasized that dialogue remains the sole and most reliable path toward achieving political solutions to the various conflicts in the Horn of Africa and the wider region.
