Ethiopia Secures Major Wins in People-Centered Diplomacy

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that Ethiopia has secured numerous successes in the realm of people-centered diplomacy.

In a statement, Ministry spokesperson Ambassador Nebiyat Getachew highlighted that Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Gedion Timothewos, during his official working visit to the United States, held discussions with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio regarding economic cooperation, defense, security, and regional peace and stability. The two sides also signed a bilateral structural agreement to further strengthen the relationship between the two nations.

To reinforce cooperation within the BRICS framework, the minister also traveled to India, where he held productive discussions with various high-ranking officials.

Ambassador Nebiyat further noted that French President Emmanuel Macron visited Addis Ababa, during which various agreements were signed to bolster the historic cooperation between the two countries.

Regarding multilateral diplomacy, the ambassador explained that the grand celebration of the 80th anniversary of the United Nations in Addis Ababa, a hub of diplomacy, demonstrates the nation's growing diplomatic standing and acceptance on the international stage.

Addressing initiatives under people-centered diplomacy, the spokesperson noted that discussions were held with the South African minister of foreign affairs to address and resolve the challenges faced by Ethiopians living in South Africa so they may live in peace. Similarly, extensive diplomatic efforts have been carried out to protect the rights and safety of Ethiopians residing in Saudi Arabia.
