Praising its commitment to unity and inclusivity, the Prosperity Party, Ethiopia's ruling party, declared itself a "people's party" built on the ideology of “Medemer” otherwise called Synergy.
Party Office Vice President Adem Farah, speaking at the African Political Parties Conference, highlighted the party's efforts to build a more democratic and unified Ethiopia, despite past political divisions.
Adem emphasised the party’s post-election actions, noting that despite securing a majority, the Prosperity Party prioritised national unity by incorporating members of rival parties into the government cabinet at the ministerial level.
This, he argued, demonstrated a commitment to working towards a national consensus beyond partisan interests.
The aim, he explained, is to forge a shared vision for the country's future.
Beyond political inclusion, Adem showcased the party's efforts to empower women.
He proudly announced that the Ethiopian cabinet is now 50 per cent female-led, a significant achievement he attributed to the Prosperity Party's commitment to gender equality.
Furthermore, Adem shared that 49 per cent of various administrative positions within the Prosperity Party are held by young people, signalling a dedication to fostering youth leadership and involvement in shaping the party's direction.
Medemer, translated as "synergy" or "coming together," is a philosophy championed by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, emphasising unity and collaboration across ethnic and political divides.
Adem’s address positioned the Prosperity Party as the embodiment of this ideology, working to translate its principles into tangible policies and governance practices.
Observers at the conference noted the presentation's strong emphasis on inclusivity as a model for other African nations striving for stability and progress.
