The European Union member states, along with Canada, Norway, and Switzerland, have issued a joint statement commending the 7th general election held on June 1, 2026.
In their statement, they recognized the contributions made by the National Election Board of Ethiopia (NEBE), political parties, candidates, and civil society organizations toward the success of the election. They also acknowledged the roles played by the African Union and IGAD as election observers.
