Voting, Vote Counting Process Concluded Successfully—Addis Ababa Police

The commissioner general of the Addis Ababa Police Commission, Lieutenant General Asrat Denero, announced that the voting and vote counting process of the 7th General Election has been concluded successfully and peacefully.

The Commissioner General stated that the entire public, election officials, and security forces all made significant collective contributions to this achieved success, and he urged that this victory must be solidified.

Lieutenant General Asrat noted that the security forces' allegiance is solely to the Constitution and laws derived from it, and he highlighted that it is legally mandated that government power can only be attained through elections.

Recalling that citizens turned out in large numbers on June 1, 2026, to elect their leaders, he added that the patience and active participation shown by the public, especially on the day of voting, are commendable.

The Commissioner General pointed out that various plots intended by anti-peace forces to disrupt the election process were thwarted through the partnership between the public and security forces.

Consequently, he conveyed a message stating that respecting the voice of the public, who are the owners of power, is expected from all sides.

Stating that the third phase of the election is currently ongoing, Lieutenant General Asrat Denero urged that the public's active participation and the readiness of security institutions must continue to be strengthened in the process leading up to the announcement of election results and the formation of the government.

On behalf of the Election Command Post, he expressed high gratitude to the National Defense Force, the National Intelligence and Security Service, the Federal Police, the Addis Ababa Police, as well as other security and peace structures that efficiently ensured the security of the election.
