The Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation's (EBC) new digital platform has been hailed as a significant step for national media by Dr. Legesse Tulu, Minister of Government Communication Service and Chairman of the EBC Board. Dr. Legesse praised the platform, stating that EBC's new digital operations and content strategy "protect the country's national interest and have opened a new chapter for other media outlets."
He emphasized the platform's importance in a world of rapid misinformation, noting that EBC is now better equipped to deliver content that "builds the nation's image, brings citizens closer, and protects national interests." Dr. Legesse encouraged other Ethiopian media outlets to follow EBC's lead by focusing on content that counters false narratives and highlights the country’s development. He also extended his gratitude to all stakeholders who supported EBC's transition into the digital era.
The new digital platform, which includes an in-house developed mobile application, is part of EBC’s ongoing efforts to empower itself in the digital age. EBC CEO Getnet Taddesse explained that the launch is a "manifestation of our desire to have a wider reach." He added that over the past year, the corporation has made its content accessible through nine different options, all designed to "bring Ethiopians closer together, help build a strong nation, and promote reform efforts." Among the 25 digital applications implemented is the "Ersas" system, which manages the entire news production workflow. Getnet credited EBC staff as "heroes" for their dedication, which allowed the corporation to save millions of birr on these projects.
