Lieutenant General Tadesse Worede, President of the Tigray Interim Administration, announced that all necessary preparations are being made for the upcoming Ashenda festival in the region.
To ensure the festival upholds its spiritual and cultural heritage, a consultative meeting was held in Mekelle with respected elders, mothers, and religious leaders. Speaking at the forum, Lt. Gen. Tadesse Worede highlighted that a large number of guests are expected and that the government is committed to ensuring the celebration is a vibrant success.
He emphasized the historical role of the "Ashenda girls" in making the event peaceful and bright, adding that a similar focus on ensuring a peaceful celebration is a top priority for this year's festivities.
Dr. Atsbaha Gebreegziabher, Head of the Tigray Culture and Tourism Bureau, also stressed the importance of preserving the festival's traditional values, stating that the forum was a crucial step in working with community elders and religious figures to achieve this goal.
The Ashenda festival, a deeply religious and cultural event celebrated with great enthusiasm by young women in Tigray, is also known by other names in different areas, including Ayni Wari, Marya, and Tsemorey. The celebrations are scheduled to begin on August 22nd.
