Ethiopia Secures Another Key Milestones WTO Accession Process

Ethiopia and New Zealand have signed a Bilateral Market Access Protocol at the WTO headquarters in Geneva, marking another important milestone in Ethiopia’s accession process to the World Trade Organization (WTO).

The Protocol was signed by Ambassador Tsegab Kebebew, Ethiopia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office at Geneva and other International Organizations in Switzerland, and Ambassador Clare Kelly, New Zealand’s Permanent Representative to the WTO and Chair of the WTO General Council.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Tsegab noted that the agreement reflects the two countries’ shared commitment to strengthening economic cooperation and supporting an open, rules-based multilateral trading system. He reaffirmed that WTO accession remains a strategic national priority under Ethiopia’s ongoing economic reform agenda.

Ambassador Clare Kelly congratulated Ethiopia on the achievement and reiterated New Zealand’s continued support for Ethiopia’s successful accession to the WTO.
