Getachew Reda, the Prime Minister's Advisor on East African Affairs, has stated that the process of forming the Eritrean state was fundamentally based on weakening and dismantling Ethiopia.
Speaking at the annual National Security Conference organized by the Ethiopian National Defense College, the advisor asserted that the forces behind the Eritrean independence movement were driven by the objective to weaken Ethiopia. He noted that this is a matter of public knowledge rather than a secret, emphasizing that the realization of Eritrean statehood has always been linked to the strategic calculation of undermining Ethiopia.
Furthermore, Getachew alleged that the Eritrean government has consistently posed a security threat to Ethiopia by organizing destructive forces within the country to disrupt national stability. Consequently, he asserted that Ethiopians are expected to focus their efforts on addressing the nation's own internal shortcomings.
