Aug 15, 2025

Lucy (Dinknesh), the fossil found in Hadar, Afar, who revealed to the world that Ethiopia is the origin of humankind, has departed for the Czech Republic.

Minister of Tourism Selamawit Kassa stated that Lucy will be open for public viewing at the National Museum in the Czech Republic.

The fossil known as "Selam" will also be part of the exhibition for visitors. This is the first time both Lucy and Selam have traveled to Europe.

The minister noted that the journey of these two fossils will make a significant contribution to promoting Ethiopia's history and its ancient heritage to the world.

She added that the exhibition in Prague, Czech Republic, will not only be a scientific event but also an opportunity to showcase Ethiopia's history, cultural treasures, and stunning landscapes.

It was stated at the farewell ceremony that, while Ethiopia has introduced Lucy to the world until now, this trip is aimed at having Lucy introduce Ethiopia to the world.

The director of the National Museum in Prague, Czech Republic, Dr. Michael Lukas, said that the arrival of the Lucy and Selam fossils for an exhibition is a great opportunity for the history of their institution.

Information indicates that the Prague National Museum is visited by up to 50,000 people per day.

The exhibition, which will begin on August 25, is scheduled to last for two months.
