Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh has announced that Ethiopia is working with firm determination to shape the future of Africa through medical education and digital innovation. The Deputy Prime Minister made the remarks today while officially opening the "MedEDAfrica 2026" continental conference on African medical education currently underway in Addis Ababa.

In his address, the Deputy Prime Minister stated that because Africa’s future health and hope depend on the young medical workforce being prepared today, Ethiopia is demonstrating practical commitment to achieving this continental goal. He highlighted that significant investments have been made over the past few years to expand the education of health professionals, establishing a decentralized system to ensure medical education is accessible across the entire nation.

Beyond meeting its domestic needs, DPM Temsgen explained that Ethiopia is serving as a regional center of excellence by training healthcare professionals from various African countries within its higher medical education institutions. He further pointed out that under the leadership of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed(PhD), Ethiopia is actively positioning itself to become a continental leader in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital innovation.

The Deputy Prime Minister urged African universities, hospitals, and the industrial sector to work closely together, emphasizing that research outputs must translate into policy guidelines that practically transform the lives of citizens. He concluded his message by noting that if the continent can successfully co-educate, co-innovate, and co-lead, it will pave the way to building a healthier Africa where knowledge truly serves humanity.
