Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) has told parliament that extensive measures are underway to stabilize market prices and ease the rising cost of living. For instance, PM Abiy mentioned that the number of Sunday markets has reached over 2,000, and the government is spending billions of birr monthly on fuel and fertilizer subsidies. He raised that currently, there is a price increase on non-food items, with imported goods having a particular impact. Stating that it is impossible to make inflation zero in a country registering a 10% economic growth, he pointed out that it is necessary to realize that inflation goes along with the country's economic growth and is healthy. To protect the purchasing power of citizens, the Prime Minister urged that low wages, especially in the private sector, must be examined and regulated, and the profit margins of traders should be adjusted.
