Ethiopia's Ministry of Innovation and Technology is spearheading a major digital transformation, launching a new platform as part of a nationwide effort to create a paperless, digitalized government.
Minister of Innovation and Technology, Dr. Belete Molla, announced the initiative in a recent interview, stating that the ministry’s goal is to modernize government operations and create a more innovative and digitally-driven nation.
The new initiative, known as the Government Digital Online Platform (GDOP), will streamline public access to government resources and boost efficiency. The platform includes a suite of new systems for managing everything from mail and visitor requests to transportation and construction permits. The ministry itself has already transitioned to a completely paperless system, and efforts are underway to extend this to other government offices as well.
This shift is expected to save the country more than 40 million birr currently spent on paper purchases while also enhancing transparency and saving both time and resources.
According to Dr. Belete, the launch of these services is a key part of the broader Digital Ethiopia 2025 Strategy. He highlighted the recent development of the "Mesob" single-service portal as another example of this progress.
The minister concluded by stating that a new, digital system is expected to be implemented across all levels of government, from local kebele offices to federal institutions.
