The Ethiopian Water Technology Institute (EWTI) is positioning itself as a key player in solving Africa's water challenges, expanding its practical training and technology transfer programs both at home and across the continent. According to Director General Tamene Hailu, the institute's mission is to provide hands-on solutions that directly address water scarcity and mismanagement.
By developing and deploying low-cost technologies for groundwater extraction, the EWTI is enabling communities in Ethiopia and beyond to access a sustainable water supply. Tamene highlighted that the institute has already trained experts from more than 15 African nations, helping them to reduce water loss from common technical faults and improve local water systems.
With a growing demand for its programs, the EWTI is well on its way to achieving its goal of becoming a continental center of excellence in water technology. According to ENA, trainees from countries like Sudan, Somalia, and Nigeria have praised the practical nature of the courses, which they say are vital for tackling water scarcity in their own regions.
