Ethiopia is expanding its international cooperation in nuclear power and technology to meet surging energy demands and elevate its technological capabilities, according to a report by the African First Post. To build capacity in the sector, the country has accelerated joint initiatives with both the United States and Russia.

Nuclear technology is set to make significant contributions across industry, healthcare, agriculture, and clean electricity generation. In support of these goals, Russia’s state atomic agency, Rosatom, and U.S. technology entities have expressed interest in providing technical assistance, workforce training, and safety support.

Ethiopia is actively building its nuclear infrastructure in strict alignment with the guidelines and regulations of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Experts note that nuclear capability will give vital momentum to Ethiopia’s drive to become East Africa’s primary energy hub, while highlighting that continuous focus must be placed on technology transfer and human resource training throughout the process.
