Simret Democratic Party Accuses TPLF Faction of Turning Tigray into 'Hell on Earth'

The Simret Democratic Party has issued a statement addressing the current political situation and escalating challenges within the Tigray region.

In its statement, the party strongly condemned what it described as a "backward and criminal" TPLF faction for dismantling the legitimate Tigray Interim Administration, established under the Pretoria Peace Agreement, through a coup d'état. The party accused the faction of converting Tigray into a "hell on earth" by utilizing internal forces as its primary proxies.

The party explained that from the outset, this faction has continuously sowed obstacles to prevent the implementation of the Pretoria Peace Accord and undermine peace, demonstrating through its actions that it harbors no objective beyond self-interest. It further pointed out that the group's chief concern is not public safety but rather advancing its own agenda and evading accountability for its crimes.

Citing the faction's ongoing military provocations as clear evidence, the party stressed that the group's inherent nature makes it incapable of existing without war and inherently opposed to peace. Desperate after suffering severe political and diplomatic defeats and facing international isolation, the faction is now openly committing acts of illegal banditry.

The report noted that Tigrayan reformist forces, including the Simret Party, along with civic organizations and signatories of the Pretoria Accord, have established a "Peace and Reform Council." The council is actively conducting an intensified campaign to oust the entrenched faction from Tigray, and the party called on all pro-reform entities to step up their efforts to bring the reform process to fruition.

Describing the faction’s ongoing atrocities against the public as driven by an "if I perish, let the world perish with me" mentality, the party urged citizens to document every piece of information, organize with reformist forces, and intensify the struggle to shorten the cruel group's rule.

The party concluded by appealing to the federal government and the international community to strengthen their support for efforts to remove this anti-peace faction, which it identified as the main driver of regional instability, and bring it to justice.
