A new study reveals that Africa is the most generous continent in the world, with its people donating the largest share of their income to good causes.
According to a report by the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF), Africans give an average of 1.54% of their income, a figure that more than doubles the 0.64% given by people in Europe. This new metric measures generosity based on donations as a share of income, a method the CAF believes provides a fairer comparison across different countries.
The report, based on a 2024 survey of global donors, also found that Africa leads in the percentage of people who donate, with 72% of its population contributing to causes. The global average for donations as a share of income stands at 1.04%, which includes contributions to charities, direct giving to individuals in need, and religious organizations.
