An IGAD delegation led by Deputy Executive Secretary Mohamed Abdi Ware has toured the Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute, pointing to the country's rapid technological advances as a model for regional growth.

Speaking during the visit, Ware emphasized that artificial intelligence is vital for driving inclusive socio-economic progress. He highlighted Ethiopia’s breakthroughs in workforce development, infrastructure expansion, and practical AI applications across agriculture, healthcare, education, and finance as clear proof of its global competitiveness. Ethiopia’s momentum, he added, offers an inspiring blueprint for the entire continent.

The visit aimed to forge a continental partnership allowing IGAD member states to tap into Ethiopia’s playbook and integrate AI technology into their own national frameworks. Representatives from across the bloc reaffirmed their readiness to adopt these lessons and deepen regional collaboration.

Dr. Taye Girma, Deputy Director General of the Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute, outlined the institute’s latest research and development initiatives, confirming that Ethiopia is fully prepared to share its expertise and collaborate closely with regional peers. According to the institute, the exchange opens broad opportunities to accelerate digital connectivity and pool technological strengths across East Africa.
