Happy Resilience Day to all Ethiopians as we mark Pagumen 3!
Resilience remains the defining hallmark of Ethiopians throughout history and into the present day. Safeguarded by the collective sacrifice and blood of its people, Ethiopia stands as an enduring source of pride and honor. It is through this heroic defense against threats from every direction that previous generations successfully preserved a free and sovereign nation to hand down to posterity.
Pagumen 3 is commemorated as Resilience Day to honor the heroes who sustained Ethiopia’s sovereignty over the ages, to encourage those serving today, and to inspire the defenders of tomorrow. Ethiopia has cultivated steadfast heroes who safeguard its national sovereignty across land, air, sea, and cyber domains.
Throughout its long history of statehood, Ethiopia has rarely been free from external provocations. In moments of strength, the nation stood respected and secure; in moments perceived as vulnerable, it faced foreign threats. Yet, its citizens have consistently stood on high alert, paying whatever price necessary to guarantee that Ethiopia remains honored and secure. Enemy conspiracies and provocations have never brought the nation's sovereignty into question; rather, they have only served to fortify its resolve and bring its heroism to light.
Ethiopians have reached the modern era by combining strategic military discipline with a willingness to pay the ultimate price for freedom. Today, the nation has fully equipped its forces with the character, discipline, and training required by modern times. Significant investments in human capital and technological capacity now ensure that any adversary must think twice before launching a provocation.
The armed forces established across all fronts carry a clear mandate: to clear any impediment standing in the way of Ethiopia’s path toward prosperity, to hand down a free country to future generations, and to ensure the state maintains full autonomy to carry out its national aspirations within its borders.
While adversaries seeking to dismantle Ethiopia have always existed and will continue to do so, the growing operational capacity, victorious mindset, and modern technology of the defense forces—alongside the inclusive National Dialogue that has closed the political grievances exploited by internal and external actors—have ensured that enemy ambitions remain nothing more than wishful thinking.
Ethiopia is no longer a country where those with political disagreements retreat to the bush out of resentment to be used as tools by external forces. Today, Ethiopia is building a promising future rooted in shared national truths, protected by a military that reflects its rich diversity, and rising as an African beacon of prosperity. To safeguard this journey, the nation has established air, maritime, and cyber capabilities designed to deter any attempt at disruption.
As Resilience Day is celebrated today, the nation pays tribute to the heroes who sacrificed and continue to sacrifice for Ethiopia’s sovereignty, peace, and security, while renewing the collective pledge to carry their legacy forward.
