Addis Ababa has been named the world’s second most climate-resilient city, according to a report by geospatial artificial intelligence institute AlphaGeo.

The study evaluated the climate resilience index of 72 major cities around the world, assessing urban readiness not merely on exposure to natural hazards, but on a city's actual capacity to prevent, adapt to, and withstand ongoing risks. 

In the latest standings, Chicago claimed the top spot, with Addis Ababa outperforming major international hubs like Melbourne, Barcelona, and Paris to secure its place as the world's second most promising and resilient city.

This historic milestone serves as practical proof that ongoing local initiatives including massive corridor development projects, the Green Legacy Initiative, riverside restorations, and modern infrastructure expansions, are significantly boosting the capital's overall resilience.

While most South Asian cities sank to the bottom of the rankings due to extreme climate vulnerability, Ethiopia’s efforts in environmental protection and sustainable urban planning are clearly bearing fruit. 

For the residents who experience its growing safety and livability every day, Addis Ababa's rise as a model of urban strength is already a lived reality; now, it stands as a celebrated achievement recognized on the global stage.
