Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (Dr.) stated that to achieve Ethiopia's intended prosperity, the nation must move swiftly and break away from conventional methods.
Talking about his new book ‘The Medmer State’, PM Abiy explained that the book outlines the characteristics of a synergistic government and analyzes how to close the growing gap between Ethiopia and leading nations.
According to PM Abiy, a synergistic government can correct its visible gaps and limitations by fulfilling three key actions.
- The Synergistic Expressway: This involves rapid, multi-sectoral growth to propel the nation forward.
- The Synergistic Leapfrog: This approach is for challenges that cannot be overcome with speed alone. The Prime Minister cited the leapfrog strategy used for climate change and artificial intelligence as successful examples.
- The Synergistic Creative Pathway: Described as a primary tool for escaping poverty, this path requires increasing innovation in all areas of work, as it is a core expression of human capability.
These three ideas, Abiy noted, were the foundation for the country's homegrown economic reform.
To ensure these ideas bear fruit, the Prime Minister introduced the "Four M's," or the four laws of 'M' (in Amharic):
- Marem (Correcting): This involves fixing what is broken and breaking free from the traps of history and our own weaknesses.
- Makakas (Compensating): This means working outside of conventional methods to rapidly close the wide gap between Ethiopia and the rest of the world.
- Melamed (Adapting): In a fast-changing world, it is crucial to adapt and keep pace with global changes.
- Meften (Accelerating): Abiy stressed the need for speed in production, work, and even in repairing psychological breakdowns.
The Prime Minister concluded by stating that implementing these principles will help Ethiopia narrow the gap and accelerate its progress.
