Addis Ababa Mayor Adanech Abiebie affirmed the city administration's commitment to the arts, stating that "listening to concerns and giving appropriate responses has become the hallmark of our government," during the inauguration of the new Children and Youth Theater and Cinema Complex. The facility, described as the first of its kind and extremely modern, was inaugurated alongside Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh.
Mayor Adanech stressed that art and culture require modern, up-to-date venues to properly fulfill their role in nation-building. She noted a successful effort to replace previous arts venues that had been leaking and completely unsuitable for creative work.
The mayor emphasized that art and culture have not been overlooked in the government's comprehensive reform efforts. She announced, "We have built several plazas and amphitheaters, and our door is open to further support the sector." She added that the City Administration has made art and culture a major focus area in all its ongoing development projects.
As a result of comprehensive urban reform, the mayor highlighted that over 160 amphitheaters and plazas—capable of hosting various international artistic works—have been built and are now operational across the city.
The new Children and Youth Theater and Cinema Complex is a striking 14-story building. Its features include:
- Two modern cinema halls
- A dedicated theater hall
- Three different multipurpose halls
- Hotel and restaurant services
- Modern cafeterias
- Parking services
The structure was built entirely for the purpose of theater and cinema and meets a modern standard to be suitable for artistic work.
