Ethiopia is capitalizing on the momentum from the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) to accelerate its national ambitions, announcing a $30 billion plan for comprehensive development projects.
State Minister of the Government Communication Service, Tesfahun Gobezay, stated that the plan, first announced by Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed at the GERD inauguration, is essential for securing the nation’s "all-around growth."
Tesfahun lauded the GERD as a symbol of prosperity and a testament to the Ethiopian "can-do" spirit, noting its completion has now created a "golden opportunity" to implement a subsequent series of transformative national projects.
The new phase of construction, ENA reported, is designed to address core needs: infrastructure, power supply, and agricultural productivity. Among the most prominent projects announced are a peaceful nuclear energy facility, a new oil and natural gas plant, a major new airport, and a modern fertilizer factory.
The State Minister concluded that these initiatives are vital steps toward solidifying Ethiopia’s elevated developmental status and fast-tracking its trajectory toward long-term prosperity.
