The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE) is celebrating its 18th National Flag Day at the House of Peoples' Representatives, with FDRE President Taye Atske-Selassie in attendance.
In his address at the ceremony, President Taye Atske-Selassie delivered a potent message of national duty, stating: "Ethiopians should protect their flag with the full force of their might."
He defined Flag Day as a major annual holiday where every Ethiopian can "renew their love, respect, and commitment to their country" and a day to "affirm our collective identity."
The President announced that this year's celebration is being observed under the guiding theme: "Our Flag, a Harbinger of a Great Era of Ascension for Ethiopia—for our National Unity, Sovereignty, and the Renaissance of Ethiopia!" He noted that this theme encapsulates the nation's past heroism, current development endeavors, and future aspirations for growth and prosperity.
President Taye highlighted the completion of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) as a key national achievement. He described the dam, "a dream for generations," as a "seal of our sovereignty," which confirms the nation’s ability to "accomplish great national works through unity" by securing the country's power supply.
Reiterating his core message, the President called on citizens to not only hold fast to "peace and steadfastness in their minds and the dawn of hope in their hearts" but also stressed that they "should protect their flag with the full force of their might."
He concluded by urging all Ethiopians to contribute their knowledge and labor to achieve the country's national growth and progress.
