The international community now recognizes and accepts Ethiopia’s position on the Abay River, which is rooted in the principles of equity and shared utilization, according to Ustaz Jemal Beshir, founder of Kings of Abay Media and a prominent advocate for the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).
Speaking on ETV News 57's Agenda Hour, Ustaz Jemal Beshir acknowledged that Egypt has repeatedly filed what he called "baseless accusations" with the United Nations and other international entities, a practice that continues. However, he maintained that the global community has understood the facts and now accepts Ethiopia's fair and mutually beneficial stance.
He highlighted the challenge posed by Egyptian media, which often spreads a false narrative about the Abay River and Ethiopia, even targeting children. While this caused confusion in the Arab world, he noted that media professionals dedicated to the Abay issue have consistently worked to present the truth, a campaign that continues even after the dam's inauguration.
Ustaz Jemal Beshir stressed the vital role of the Ethiopian and Ethio-Diaspora community. He stated that the Diaspora set aside their differences to achieve a unified position on the GERD, successfully conveying Ethiopia's reality and countering the inaccurate views of some nations to the wider world.
He concluded by urging national unity, emphasizing that Ethiopia, as the source of the majority of the Abay's water, needs its children to stand together to combat the ongoing media smear campaign. He called upon all Ethiopians to unite and work toward this shared goal.
