Ethiopia has declared its firm commitment to ensuring the success of Africa's transition to renewable energy. The announcement follows the conclusion of the Second Africa Renewable Energy Investment and Partnership Forum held in Freetown, Sierra Leone. 

Co-hosted by the Sierra Leone government and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the forum was convened under the theme: "Scaling up Investment to Accelerate Africa’s Energy Transition and Green Industrialization." The event served as a high-level platform for discussing strategies to boost renewable energy investment and expand green-led industrialization across the continent, with participants including senior leaders from various African nations, financial institutions, energy sector heads, and development partners. Ethiopia actively participated in the investment discussions. 

Temesgen Tefera, Renewable Energy Advisor at Ethiopia's Ministry of Water and Energy, highlighted the forum's critical role in mobilizing necessary resources, providing technical assistance, and securing crucial private sector support. Temesgen unequivocally affirmed Ethiopia’s commitment to providing the necessary support to achieve this continental transition and guarantee sustainable development across Africa. 

The Freetown forum also reviewed progress since the inaugural event in Nairobi, Kenya, in 2024, which successfully garnered $2.7 billion in commitments for identified projects totaling approximately one gigawatt of power. 

According to information ENA obtained from the Ministry of Water and Energy, the participating African countries, including Ethiopia, collectively stressed their joint commitment to injecting finance and implementing projects aimed at closing the significant gap between Africa's vast renewable energy potential and its current utilization.
