The Koysha Hydroelectric Power Project is poised to become a significant driver of tourism, in addition to being a major source of clean energy, according to Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh.
Speaking at a discussion forum titled 'Council of Ministers' Observation on Koysha,' Deputy PM Temesgen highlighted the project's dual significance. The 1,800-megawatt dam, he noted, was one of the projects rescued and revitalized by the current reform government.
After what he described as his fourth visit to the site, the Deputy Prime Minister confirmed that work on the project is advancing rapidly.
He emphasized Koysha's potential to boost tourism, citing its location on the Omo River and the surrounding environment's suitability for developing recreational facilities.
Furthermore, Deputy PM Temesgen recalled seeing tourists visit the lush, wildlife-rich area of Chebera Churchura. He urged that the region be strategically linked with the Koysha project and other attractions to establish it as a premier future tourist destination.
