World Athletics has unveiled the nominees for the 2025 World Athletes of the Year for road running in both genders.

In women's athletics, Tigist Assefa has been nominated.

Tigist Assefa, who finished in second place at the World Athletics Championships during the competitive year, is also known as the winner of the London Marathon.

Furthermore, this year saw her set the women-only (marathon races solely featuring female runners) world record.

The other nominees in this category are Sifan Hassan (Netherlands), Agnes Ngetich and Peres Jepchirchir (both from Kenya), and María Pérez (Spain).

In men's athletics, Yomif Kejelcha has been nominated.

This year, Yomif recorded the 6th fastest time ever in the 5 km and also set a best time in the 10 km.

The other athletes nominated in the road running category are Sebastian Sawe (Kenya), Alphonce Simbu (Tanzania), Caio Bonfim (Brazil), and Evan Dunfee (Canada).
