Economic Reform Fuels 7.3% Growth, Wheat Production Jumps to 280 million Quintals

Oct 28, 2025

Ethiopia’s ambitious economic reform is fueling a rapid transformation across all national parameters, with the agricultural sector leading the charge. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, addressing the House of People's Representatives (Parliament) today, highlighted the impressive results, noting that the sector has recorded a robust 7.3 percent growth rate in a short period.

This rapid surge is most dramatically illustrated by major leaps in crop production: rice output has skyrocketed from 1.5 million quintals to an astounding 63 million quintals, while wheat production has similarly boomed, rising from 47 million quintals before the reform to a staggering 280 million quintals. The Prime Minister presented these figures to underscore the transformative impact of the reform agenda on the nation’s economy and its path toward full food security.
