Ethiopia's world-renowned hominid fossils, Lucy and Selam, have returned to Addis Ababa, concluding their successful two-month exhibition in the Czech Republic.
The historic fossils, which had been on display at the Prague Museum, landed in Addis Ababa this morning.
A high-level delegation, including Sileshi Girma, State Minister of the Ministry of Tourism, and other senior ministry officials, were present at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport to receive them.
During their time in Europe, the artifacts were viewed by numerous tourists and are credited with significantly elevating Ethiopia's global standing. By showcasing the country as the origin of humankind and a cradle of ancient civilization, the exhibition successfully boosted the nation’s international image.
The repatriation of Lucy and Selam from Prague was spearheaded by Associate Professor Abebaw Ayalew, Director General of the Authority for Research and Conservation of Cultural Heritage.
