Ethiopia has prominently showcased its globally recognized Green Legacy Initiative (GLI), a massive national reforestation campaign, at the inaugural Africa Biodiversity Summit in Gaborone, Botswana, which concluded with the adoption of the Gaborone Declaration on Biodiversity. Represented by Deputy Permanent Representative Bereket Diriba, the country highlighted the Green Legacy Initiative as a landmark achievement, providing evidence of its deep commitment to ecological sustainability and community-focused growth.

Complementing this effort, Bereket also featured major initiatives such as integral rural watershed development projects and the visionary Addis Ababa Riverside Project, which successfully blends urban renewal with biodiversity conservation. Furthermore, Ethiopia's model of ecotourism was praised as exemplary for ensuring local communities are direct financial beneficiaries of conservation success.

Underscoring the regional importance of Ethiopia's ecological treasures, the Bale Mountains, Borana, and Gambela National Parks were simultaneously selected to join the African Wildlife Foundation’s new Africa Keystone Area Partnership Initiative, a major, focused conservation effort targeting 162 critical sites across 33 nations.
