The United Kingdom has welcomed the selection of Ethiopia as the host nation for the 32nd UN Climate Change Conference (COP 32), pledging its full support for the upcoming event.
The announcement followed a meeting in Belém, Brazil, where the global climate change conference (COP 30) is currently taking place. Dr. Fitsum Assefa, Ethiopia's Minister of Planning and Development, held discussions with UK Minister for Climate, Katie White, on the sidelines of the summit.
Minister White affirmed the UK would stand with Ethiopia in a spirit of cooperation, committing to work collaboratively to ensure the successful hosting and management of the high-profile conference.
During the exchange, Minister Dr. Fitsum Assefa highlighted the extensive work Ethiopia is undertaking to tackle the fallout from climate change.
She emphasized that hosting COP 32 will provide a vital platform for Ethiopia to elevate the voice of Africans, who are the hardest hit by the climate crisis, and to coordinate a global push for tangible and practical climate action.
The UK Minister for Climate acknowledged the significance of Ethiopia's Green Legacy and other environmental initiatives, expressing a mutual desire to work together to collaboratively address the global challenge.
