Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim has delivered a powerful and historically resonant message, declaring that Ethiopians have been a "manifestation of compassion, justice, and tolerance since ancient times." This sentiment served as the central theme for the deepening diplomatic and economic ties forged during his three-day stay.

The PM concluded his official working visit to Ethiopia today. When the Malaysian Prime Minister and his delegation returned to their country, Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh was present at Bole International Airport and accorded them a warm send-off.

The prime minister explicitly referenced the country's profound historical role as the first place of refuge for early Muslim migrants fleeing persecution from Mecca, highlighting a shared history that transcends standard diplomatic relations.

"We know that Ethiopia is a country of long history and civilization, and this great nation is the country where Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) entrusted his followers to go. This is a matter I always bring up," Prime Minister Anwar stated. He cited the care and protection provided to the followers by King Al-Nejashi at the time as proof that this ancient act of sanctuary forms the foundation of a "good culture, unsegregated by race or religion," that continues to define the welcoming spirit of the nation today. He stressed that this historical act demonstrates that Ethiopians are fundamentally characterized by "genuine compassion, justice, and tolerance."

The visit was marked by high-level discussions with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, focusing on areas to strengthen comprehensive Ethio-Malaysian bilateral cooperation. Acknowledging the country's modern trajectory, the Malaysian leader also remarked that the "growth Ethiopia has shown in just a few years is astonishing" and praised the "great potential it is now showing on the path of development."

Significantly, the Prime Minister drew ideological parallels between Ethiopia’s 'Medemer' (Synergy/Coming Together) philosophy and Malaysia's 'Madani' concept, noting that both prioritize human development and values over mere material gain. This shared emphasis ensures that when the two nations discuss "sustainability, inclusiveness, and growth," it is approached in a "people-centered manner."

The visit yielded concrete agreements on cooperation in tourism, health, air transport services, and a sister city pact between Kuala Lumpur and Addis Ababa. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim concluded his highly fruitful visit by expressing his gratitude for the warm reception, calling the fruitful outcome a "fruit of good friendship."
