Morocco and Ethiopia have formalized their commitment to combating transnational organized crime by signing a comprehensive security cooperation agreement in Marrakech.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by Abdellatif Hammouchi, Morocco's Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance, and the Commissioner General of the Ethiopian Federal Police, on the sidelines of the 93rd Interpol General Assembly.
The agreement establishes a framework for extensive operational, intelligence, and technical collaboration between the two nations' security services. Its core focus is the fight against violent crime and sophisticated organized criminal networks, including:
- Human trafficking and illegal migration.
- Illicit drug and chemical trafficking.
- Illegal arms and explosives trade.
- Cybercrime.
- Financial crimes and money laundering.
Under the terms of the MoU, Moroccan security services are set to provide Ethiopia with crucial support, including specialized training, intelligence assistance, technical aid, and human resource development, all aimed at strengthening crime prevention and enforcement capacities.
According to Morocco World News, the move reflects a strategic push by both countries to enhance collaborative mechanisms, share expertise, and position themselves as proactive players in addressing regional and international security challenges.
