Singapore’s prime minister has thanked Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali for the “warm hospitality” extended during his first official visit to Ethiopia, marking the occasion by announcing a major step to deepen ties: the establishment of a new Singaporean embassy in Addis Ababa.

The leaders concluded a “fruitful discussion” focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation and unlocking new opportunities for businesses between the two countries.

The visit underscored shared interests with the official exchange of Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) in two strategic areas of mutual importance: skills development and carbon credits.

The Prime Minister highlighted that these agreements address crucial sectors where “our interests align.”

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali formally welcomed Singapore’s decision to open a new embassy in the Ethiopian capital, recognizing its strategic value.

The Singaporean Prime Minister emphasized the embassy’s role, stating it will be a “significant milestone, serving as a vital link not just to Ethiopia, but to the African Union and the wider continent.”

He concluded by framing the future partnership: "Singapore and Ethiopia are both gateways to our respective regions. By deepening our partnership, we are building a bridge between Southeast Asia and Africa that will benefit our peoples for years to come."
