Ethiopia's prosperity will be achieved through a new mathematical approach, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has told leaders, detailing three specific formulas for managing national resources.
In a technical breakdown of his "Medemer" philosophy, the prime minister instructed leaders that sheer effort is not enough without a mathematical approach to resources and time. He warned that "idea-lessness" (the absence of structured thought) is a primary cause of institutional failure.
The Three Formulas:
- Gathering: The prevention of waste. The PM likened ideas to crops—if not harvested and gathered immediately, they scatter and rot. "Ideas, resources, and capacities found today must be gathered without letting them drip away," he urged.
- Accumulating: The act of addition. This involves taking the assets of yesterday and physically adding today’s work on top of them.
- Accruing (Capitalizing): The strategy of compound growth. This requires storing assets that lead to change, reducing national debt, and maintaining "better beginnings" to ensure long-term wealth.
The Passenger and the Ferryman
To execute these formulas, the PM introduced a new leadership framework involving four actors: the Starting Point, the Crossing, the Passenger, and the Transporter. He challenged the Prosperity Party leadership to identify which role they play.
In a final word of caution regarding success, he warned against the ego of leadership. "Danger arises when a person starts 'adorning' or pampering their own victory," he said. "At that point, they begin to kill themselves."
