PM Abiy: Public-Private Synergy is the Engine of Ethiopia's Comprehensive Prosperity PM Abiy States

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (Dr.) has asserted that the key to achieving Ethiopia’s comprehensive prosperity lies in a robust model of public-private synergy that goes beyond traditional roles.

Addressing senior Prosperity Party leaders, the Prime Minister spoke on how significant, cross-cutting achievements are being realized through collaborations involving the government, the private sector, and the public.

Dr. Abiy first discussed the conventional view of economic development, which proposes that the government's role should be limited to securing property, facilitating a conducive environment, and ensuring safety to allow the private sector to lead growth and profitability.

However, he explained that this ideal of a minimal state role is "incompatible with Ethiopia's existing reality."

The Prime Minister underscored the challenge of infrastructure competency, highlighting that the cost of transporting a commodity from Djibouti to various parts of Ethiopia is significantly higher than the cost of shipping it from China to Djibouti.

He stated that the principal reason for this is the lack of suitable road infrastructure. Under such constraints, Dr. Abiy argued, delegating the responsibility for achieving national growth solely to the private sector would prove ineffective.

Recognizing this structural reality, the government has pursued deep collaborations, which have resulted in globally acclaimed successes.

"The Gorgora Eco-Tourism development, impressive in its quality and standard on a global scale, was constructed through these collaborations," Dr. Abiy stated. He also referenced the Wenchi Destination, which is now generating substantial foreign currency, along with the Green Legacy initiative and the Corridor Development, as powerful examples of what can be accomplished when the government and the public strive towards a single objective.

The prime minister stressed that the government must view its responsibility to create a technologically capable, idea-generating generation and link them with industry as being just as fundamental as infrastructure development itself. He urged party leaders to highly value and foster these crucial partnerships.
