The Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation (EBC), long recognized as a pioneer in Ethiopian media across both radio and television, has received a significant honour, taking home a special award at the recent African Media Awards.
For years, EBC has been instrumental in the media sector, extending its influence beyond national borders to promote unity, cooperation, and solidarity across the African continent.
The broadcaster’s historical significance is profound; it played a key, historical role in promoting the Pan-Africanism movement, galvanizing support for the founding of the Organization of African Unity (OAU), and encouraging African nations in their struggle for independence from colonial powers.
Today, EBC continues its work by actively sharing information about Ethiopia's ongoing development initiatives with a global audience. Its current mission is focused on fostering a spirit of collaboration necessary for the joint development of Africa and ensuring mutual benefit for all African people.
The special recognition at the African Media Awards acknowledges the collective efforts of African media in driving the continent's growth and advancement. EBC was specifically honoured for its enduring contributions.
In addition to the main institutional award, EBC journalist Metasebia Dereje was also recognised as a category winner.

Best Video Production: The award went to Hirwa Aimable of the Rwanda Broadcasting Corporation.
African Independent Category (Special Focus): Kudakwashe Moyo from the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation claimed the prize.
African Cultural Heritage (Special Focus): Jakzii Saraeb from Namibia was the winner.
