PM Abiy Affirms Unity is Ethiopia's Highest Desire

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) stated that Ethiopia's unity is the aspiration of all its citizens.

The Prime Minister delivered his speech at the 20th Ethiopian Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Day celebration, currently underway in Hossana City, under the theme "Democratic Consensus for Multinational Unity."

PM Abiy conveyed a message of goodwill to all Ethiopians and thanked the Hadiya Zone for hosting the annual festival and bringing the country together.

In his remarks, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of national inclusion asserting that such a gathering is historic at a time when Ethiopia is "transitioning toward light by all standards," the prime minister stressed that citizens must stand together in unity to amplify that national progress.

PM Abiy pointed out that citizens should focus on Ethiopia's potential, not just its problems, adding that the country's greatness can be assured if its children stand together in strong unity. He issued a call for collective effort, saying, "Let us work together like a woven fabric to build an Ethiopia fit for the generations of tomorrow."

Addressing external pressures, the Prime Minister stated that although there are those who "lose sleep attempting to disrupt the amazing journey Ethiopia has begun," they will not stop the country from its path.

He concluded by asserting that the children of Colonel Bezabih Petros (a reference to national resilience) will not be intimidated and that "Ethiopia will continue to be a model for Africa."

"Let us strive, with the spirit of cooperation, with great diligence and effort, to open a new chapter of history with prosperity for Ethiopia and for Africa, like a second Adwa.”

The celebration of the 20th Ethiopian Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Day was attended by high-ranking officials, including the Speaker of the House of Federation, Agegnehu Teshager, and Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh. Also present were regional chief administrators, city administration mayors, senior federal officials, and representatives of nations and nationalities from across Ethiopia.
